Film-Ready Rig in Maya
2023
Used PyMEL scripting to automate creation of key steps in the rigging process.
The scripts are broken down by component, allowing for one part of the rig to be constructed without dependency of any other parts (i.e. you can just create the arms without having a spine first.)
Currently supported with scripts:
- Creating limbs
- Automatically setting up IK/FK controls
- Creating ribbons for cartoonish squash/stretch, twist, and bend on limbs
- Creating a fully functional spine
- Creating hands with variable number of finger controls
Parts of the Rig Done by Hand
Creating multiple pivot spaces (head, torso, body, and world) for key parts such as the hands and head in IK-controls, allowing these body parts to stay fixed for more convenient animations (such as holding a phone for a call, or facing a specific point while the character is walking).
